SCOTTISH Borders Council (SBC) is refusing to say which businesses have received a "small business support grant".
The local authority manages a portion of the Scottish Government's Business Support Fund, with grants of £10,000 and £25,000 being awarded to local firms struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.
This newspaper asked the council to release a list of the 2,534 businesses which have been given help.
But an SBC spokesperson said: "This [list] isn’t something we would provide."
As at June 22, the council has approved grants worth a total of £27.2 million.
