A COUNTRY store in the Borders is reportedly closing down, leaving staff “heartbroken”.
Carrs Billington is shutting its Dunsdale Haugh site in Selkirk.
The store’s manager Paula Whitson said she had “no comment” when approached by the Border Telegraph.
However, staff are said to be very upset by developments.
A reader, who said their family member worked at the store, told this newspaper that employees are “heartbroken and very shocked”.
The reader, who did not wish to be named, said yesterday (June 30): "Carrs Billington have just told staff they are closing down their country store in Selkirk. More redundancies in the Borders.”
The store’s erstwhile neighbour Leven Car Company left town at the beginning of the year.
And 400 workers at OVO Energy (formerly Spark) are facing an uncertain future after the company announced the Selkirk site’s closure in May.
