POLICE have issued a warning after confiscating alcohol from a group of youngsters in the Borders.

The Scottish Borders Community Action Team was on patrol in Peebles at the weekend.

On Saturday, officers say they saw a group "intent on engaging in anti-social behaviour".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The majority of people spoken with were enjoying the weekend in a responsible manner, however a small minority were intent on engaging in anti-social behaviour.

"As a result of this engagement, the parents of those youths spoken with over the weekend will receive a letter in the coming week highlighting their involvement in any anti-social behaviour.

"We request that the parents of those involved take the time to discuss with their children the negative impact anti-social behaviour can have on our communities.

"We would like to take this opportunity to highlight that purchasing alcohol for youths is a criminal offence and those found guilty of the offence can receive a fine of up to £5,000 and/or imprisonment up to three months.

"Anyone with information on the sale of alcohol to youths is encouraged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or by completing our online ‘Contact Us’ form.

"You can also report anonymously through Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 or by completing their online form."
