A TV presenter has shown her support for young female golfers in Tweeddale.

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty retweeted a post from Peebles Golf Club – after more girls than boys turned up at a junior training session.

Thirteen female players took part in the 'older junior coaching' on Sunday (September 6), compared with 12 boys.

Peebles Golf Club tweeted: "For the first time, the number of girls at our older Junior Coaching Group today exceeded the number of boys with 13 girls out of 25.

"Fantastic to see the girls enjoying their golf and improving so much this season."

Ms Munchetty published a 'love heart' emoji alongside her retweet.

And the young golfers also got a mention from 'The Jazzy Golfer' on Instagram, with the sports star vowing to visit the club in the future.

David Thorburn, the club’s junior convenor, said: “We are delighted to see so many girls taking part in our junior coaching on a regular basis, with many now coming along for a number of years.

"Our aim is to make the coaching fun and inclusive, and the girls seem to enjoy the activities we put on, while playing as groups of friends.

"The proportion of female golfers in Scotland is fairly low at just 13 per cent, so hopefully Peebles can help give those numbers a boost and keep our girls playing for years to come."
