THE coronavirus outbreak in Hawick has grown to 23 cases after a new positive test result, according to NHS Borders.

The mobile testing unit (MTU) at the town’s Teviotdale Leisure Centre car park will now run until Wednesday (September 16), with Galashiels’ Netherdale facility operating until then too.

People with symptoms have been advised to book a test online or by calling 0800 028 2816.

These are the operating hours of the MTUs

Hawick’s MTU will be in the Teviotdale Leisure Centre car park at the following times:

  • Friday - Saturday (11-12 September): 10am – 5pm
  • Sunday - Wednesday (13-16 September):  3pm – 5pm

Galashiels’s MTU will be at the Netherdale car park at the following times:

  • Friday - Saturday (11-12 September): 10am – 5pm
  • Sunday - Wednesday (13-16 September): 10am – 1pm

A spokesperson for NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council said: “As the MTU can only take a limited number of people each day it remains essential that only people with COVID-19 symptoms book a test.

“Tests must be booked in advance. You can arrange your test by visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or calling 0800 028 2816.

“Whilst you wait for your test all of your household members should self-isolate.

“It is essential that everyone follows the Scottish Government guidance and public health advice available at NHS Inform.

“Remember the FACTS that will help all of us to stay safe and protect each other as well:

  • Face coverings in enclosed spaces
  • Avoid crowded places
  • Clean hands and surfaces regularly
  • Two-metre distancing
  • Self-isolate and book a test if you have symptoms.
