SCOTTISH Borders Council (SBC) is scrapping the waste quantity limits at its seven recycling centres.

From tomorrow (Tuesday, September 15), there will be no limit on the amount of waste that can be brought to a centre.

Previously, Borderers were allowed to bring up to eight items of waste, such as eight bags of rubbish or five bags and three large items.

The rules were introduced in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Some restrictions will remain in place, however, including the need to maintain social-distancing, the rule that only one person may leave a vehicle (unless for a heavy item), and the rule that site staff will not be available to offer help.

Large vans and trailers are also asked to continue booking a recycling slot online or by phoning 0300 100 1800.

SBC chief executive Tracey Logan said: "It is vitally important that members of the public continue to social distance while at our recycling centres. This is to ensure the safety of other site users and staff.

"Additional signage is being installed to remind the public of FACTS guidance and importance of social distancing."
