A PERSON linked to Melrose Rugby Club has tested positive for coronavirus.

In a statement issued today (Friday, September 17), the club announced it has stopped all training and closed its facilities.

Anyone who may have come into contact with the person this week has been made aware, the club says.

The statement reads: "We are aware that a person who was at the Greenyards on Tuesday, September 15 has tested positive for COVID-19.

"The individual started to feel unwell overnight on September 15, went for a test on September 16, and received the result this morning (September 17).

"We respect the right to privacy therefore we will not confirm any personal details.

"Effective immediately, we have temporarily closed all facilities at the club and ceased all activity, including rugby training at other sites, while we carry out a full risk assessment.

"We will reassess the closure on Sunday evening.

"We have alerted Scottish Rugby to the situation and have also been in contact with all those people who may have come into contact with the individual. They understand their requirement to self-isolate at home for the next two weeks, in line with government guidance.

"We are ready to assist the NHS Track and Trace team with any information they might require.

"We wish the individual involved a speedy recovery."
