A Peebles school pupil has tested positive for coronavirus.

A student at Peebles High School pupil is currently in self-isolation, according to Scottish Borders Council (SBC).

A spokesperson for SBC said: “A pupil at Peebles High School is isolating at home after testing positive for COVID-19.

“At this time the advice from NHS Borders’ Public Health team is that the risk of onward transmission is low as all necessary procedures are in place in the school to minimise further spread of infection.

“Contact Tracing is being carried out by the NHS Test and Protect Team and any close contacts will be asked to self-isolate.

"The school remains open and if a young person has not been contacted then they should continue to attend school if they remain well.

“If anyone develops any of the COVID-19 symptoms, which are a new continuous cough, a fever/high temperature (37.8C or greater) and /or a loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste, they should self-isolate immediately and visit NHS Inform or phone 0800 028 2816 to book a test.”

So far this month more than 100 positive cases have been recorded in the Borders.

However, NHS Borders has revealed some of these cases come from patients living outside the region.
