A MAN who led police on a 100mph chase in the Borders has been banned from the road for four years after admitting a dangerous driving charge.

David Manson, 32, was also placed on supervision for two years at Selkirk Sheriff Court for assaulting his former partner.

Manson, formerly of Hawick and Broughton and who gave an address in High Street, Galashiels, pleaded guilty to charges on three complaints.

He admitted assaulting his partner by holding her by the leg and pulling her downstairs at the Neidpath Inn in Peebles on July 12 last year and spraying a fire extinguisher at her.

During the same incident Manson admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing, striking a door and struggling violently with a woman.

In Kingsmeadows Road, Peebles, on August 9 last year Manson was searched by police and found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine.

On November 24, Manson admitted dangerous driving on the A72 road in Walkerburn, Peebles and Galashiels, by driving at excessive speed for the wet and rainy conditions and road lay-out, ignoring a traffic light and refusing to stop when requested to do so by police.

The court was told Manson would reach speeds of 100mph in a vehicle he had borrowed from a disabled person and police had to stop chasing him for safety reasons.

Sheriff Donald Corke admonished him on the cocaine charge.

But for assaulting his former partner he was given a Community Pay Back Order for two years’ supervision.

For the dangerous driving offence Manson was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and banned from driving for four years and will have to sit and pass the extended test at the end of that period.
