Remarkable footage of a seal attacking a porpoise on Largs Bay has been streamed online around the world - and has confounded nature experts.
It is believed to be the first time that it has ever been witnessed and recorded in Scottish waters.
The one minute clip shows the seal thrashing about with the porpoise for a short period of time in what appears to be a violent struggle around 100 yards from the shore.
The Clyde has some of the biggest hotspots of porpoises in northern Europe but there are also a large amount of seals in the bay off Millport, Wee Cumbrae and Skelmorlie, although such confrontations are rare to see.
Even a local seagull was intrigued by what was happening and appeared to fly close to the incident to get a closer look.
Thanks to Tamsen Collins for the footage.
