A VALE of Clwyd Welsh Youth Parliament (WYP) member appeared as a guest on the Jeremy Vine show.

Jonathon Dawes, of Rhyl, discussed Wales' approach for qualifications in 2021.

The 17-year-old described his appearance on the topical debate show, which airs on Channel 5, as "one of the most incredible and scariest things" he has done.

"I absolutely love the Jeremy Vine Show. It is one of my favourite shows and when I was invited, I was absolutely delighted to appear," Jonathon said.

"It was incredible to discuss the exams decision on one of Britain's most prestigious talk shows with the fantastic Jeremy Vine.

"The experience came about following a journalist from Jeremy Vine who saw my work as a Welsh Youth Parliament Member and got in touch via Twitter."

This was Jonathon's first experience doing 'live' tv.

He added: "All my previous TV work has been pre recorded so I was certainly nervous. I woke up very early on the day of the show to prepare notes and I read all the newspapers to make sure I wasn't asked about anything I didn't know about."

Jonathon, who has been elected as the new student president at Coleg Cambria, managed to get everything across that he wanted to say about the Welsh summer exam series.

"Jeremy was fantastic and very generous with my air time," he said.

"This enabled me to get across everything I wanted to say regarding my views on the Welsh Government announcement.

"Having this opportunity is certainly one I will remember for the rest of my life."

Earlier this month, Kirsty Williams, Wales' Education Minister, confirmed her intention that there will be no end of year exams for learners taking GCSEs, AS level and A level qualifications approved by Qualifications Wales in summer 2021.
