BORDERS men have been fined for fighting in the street.

Nineteen-year-old Adam Redpath and Philip McMillan, who is 23, pleaded guilty to a charge of breach of the peace at Jedburgh Sheriff Court after an incident on Hawick's High Street at 4.30pm last September.

Procurator fiscal Fraser Matheson said a fight broke out between the pair which was witnessed by staff at a hairdressers.

McMillan was heard to say towards Redpath that he was going to get slashed and his house burned down.

McMillan suffered a one-centimetre cut to his head.

Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said both males, who gave addresses in Hawick, were at a loss to explain what happened but simply passed each other in the street and their eyes met and they ended up rolling on the ground.

He said there was no grudge between the pair and the incident had been forgotten.

Redpath was fined £130 and McMillan, who had a record, was fined £200.
