NHS Borders is prepared to open a fourth coronavirus ward should it become necessary, according to a spokesperson.
The spokesperson told this newspaper that there are “robust” plans in place to tackle the virus.
“We are ready to open a fourth COVID ward in the BGH should it be required,” said the spokesperson, in a statement on Monday (January 11).
They added: “We have a robust COVID-19 and winter escalation plan in place and our systems are designed to have flexibility to provide further capacity as necessary.”

The health board is encouraging Borders residents to follow lockdown guidelines.
The health board spokesperson said: “We are urging people to stay at home.
“Only go out for essential purposes and exercise.
“If you do not mix with people, you cannot come into contact with the virus.
“And if you have any one of the symptoms of COVID, self isolate and book a test immediately.”
