CORONAVIRUS has forced another Borders summer festival to cancel its traditional events for a second year in a row.

West Linton's Whipman Play Society issued the Peeblesshire News with a statement at 9.29am today (Wednesday) announcing the cancellation of the 2021 celebration.

The statement reads: "It is with regret that due to the current pandemic, we are having to cancel Whipman 2021.

"In the current situation the safety of our community is of the utmost importance."

Last year Gregor Brown and Lucy Martin were selected as the 2020 Principals, but their roles will be postponed until 2022 when organisers hope the festival can resume.

The statement added: "Whipman and Lass 2019, Guy and Delia Thorley, will be "on duty" for another year and our Whipman and Lass Elect, Gregor Brown and Lucy Martin, and other Principals will roll over to 2022.

"As last year we will mark Whipman week in the village and parishes with bunting, virtual events and community projects.

"The proposed Whipman Exhibition will also roll over to next year."
