NINE people in the Borders have died recently with coronavirus listed on their death certificate, new data shows.
This latest figure represents the week of January 18-24.
According to statistics released by the National Records Scotland (NRS) at 12pm today (Wednesday, January 27), the total number of people who have died with COVID-19 in the Borders in 2021 is now 15.
Pete Whitehouse, director of statistical services at the NRS, said: “Each statistic represents heartbreak for families and friends across the country.
"These latest figures show that the week ending January 24 has the highest number of COVID-19 related deaths registered since the week ending May 3, 2020.”
The first deaths related to coronavirus in the Borders were reported in the week beginning March 23.
Since the pandemic began (week 12 of 2020) the Borders has recorded 119 deaths with COVID-19 listed on the death certificate.
