SEVEN flood warning are currently in place across the Borders.

The Yarrow Valley, Tweedbank to Floors, Newcastleton, Hawick (Teviot), Hawick to Monteviot, Ettrick Valley, and Drumelzier to Dawyck areas are all at risk, according to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

And Scottish Borders Council is urging Borderers “not to ignore the warnings”.

A spokesperson said: “These [warnings] have already had an impact on communities in Newcastleton, Hawick and the Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys.

“The flood warnings are likely to remain in place and although river levels may drop during Saturday, there is a high chance they will rise again later in the day, so please do not ignore them.

“A Met Office yellow weather warning is in place today (Saturday) between noon and 11pm for western and central parts of the Borders.

“This could result in more localised flooding, surface water on roads and has the potential to flood properties in at risk areas.

“Please check the SEPA website for information, and to sign up for free flood alerts relevant to your property.”
