CUTTING off almost 20 inches of hair for charity has left a nine-year-old Borders girl with a very stylish bob cut.

Over Christmas, Hannah Ramsay decided she wanted to donate her long locks to the Little Princess Trust – the charity that makes wigs for young people who have undergone cancer treatment or live with other conditions.

On Sunday, February 28, at her home in Darnick, Hannah and mum Claire created an at-home hairdressers on their driveway.

And the verdict on the finished product? “I love it, I think it’s cool,” said Hannah, although Claire modestly joked: “I don’t think I’ll get a job as a hairdresser somehow.”

Although apprehensive at first, Claire said she thinks Hannah’s new hair “looks great”.

“I was worried that she [Hannah] might not be so sure about it once it was done, but [she] seemed quite happy with it and [she] coped well with the attention which was quite good,” said Claire.

As the haircut was outside, passersby were able to stop and ask a few questions about what was happening, which Hannah took in her stride, explaining why she wanted to help the Little Princess Trust.

And this week Hannah has debuted her new ‘do’ to her classmates in the virtual classroom.

“My teacher knows [about the haircut] and she keeps asking questions and stuff,” said Hannah on Sunday.

“She’s like, ‘I can’t wait to see you and your hair’.”

Before the big chop, Claire said her husband Craig had “mixed feelings” about the haircut as “he’s really enjoyed brushing her [Hannah’s] hair and has now become a master of the plait”.

As well as cutting her hair, Hannah has been fundraising for the Little Princess Trust to help cover the costs of making the wigs.

As at Tuesday (March 2), Hannah had raised £805 – her initial target was £150.

“Hopefully when the hairdressers are back we can get a proper cut because we’re looking a little bit wavy in the back,” Claire said.

“It is definitely an amateur haircut.

“But, it still looks brilliant on her.”
