A MAJOR Borders road is set to shut later this month for "resurfacing work".

A 1,400m stretch of the A7 at Lindean, near Selkirk, will close for five nights of work starting on May 24, according to BEAR Scotland.

The section of road between Lindean and the B6360 junction will shut in both directions from 7.30pm until 6am while the work is carried out. The road is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, May 29.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve ride quality and safety for motorists using the A7 at this location.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road in both directions during the works, however we’ve scheduled them overnight in order to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.”

According to BEAR Scotland, a diversion route will be signposted between Kingsknowe Roundabout and Selkirk via the A6091, A68, and A699.

This will add an estimated 11 minutes and 9.6 miles to journeys, say officials.

The A7 will remain open in both directions outwith these closures.
