THE Borders has recorded its sixth week with no coronavirus-related deaths.

Data from the National Records of Scotland released on Wednesday (May 26) shows that in the week of May 17-23, no coronavirus deaths were recorded.

These latest figures mean that for six weeks from April 12 to May 23, the Borders has recorded no deaths where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The Borders has recorded 46 deaths by that measure in 2021, with the total since the start of the pandemic being 150.

The current run of zero deaths is the longest since July 13, 2020 when the Borders also had a six-week stretch of no COVID-19 deaths (one death was then recorded in the week between August 24-30, 2020).
