A TEENAGER who lost control of his vehicle on a Borders road and collided with a tractor has been fined £200 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
But 19-year-old James Mitchell from Coldstream escaped a driving ban as his driving licence was endorsed with five penalty points.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving on the C78 Smailholm to Leaderfoot road on March 18.
Procurator fiscal Fraser Matheson said the accused failed to negotiate a right-hand bend and lost control of the vehicle before colliding with the tractor and causing extensive damage to his Nissan Micra and injuring his passenger.
Mr Matheson explained the incident happened at around 5.40pm and said Mitchell had misjudged the bend.
The student was fined £200 with a £10 victim surcharge and had his licence endorsed with five penalty points.
