THE Borders has recorded its highest number of weekend cases in more than three months, new figures show.

The Scottish Government published updated data at 2pm today (Monday, June 7).

And the latest figures show the Borders recorded 17 cases of COVID-19 between Friday (June 4) and today.

That is the highest number of new cases over a weekend since February 19-22, when 24 cases were recorded.

This weekend, six cases were recorded between Friday and Saturday; another six between Saturday and Sunday; and five between Sunday and today.

The region saw no more than three cases during any weekend across April and May.

In 2021, there have been seven weekends where weekend cases have exceeded 17, with 267 the highest number recorded – between January 1-4.

Since the start of the pandemic the Borders has now seen 2,951 cases.

In Scotland, a total of 241,169 cases have been recorded since March last year.

There are still fewer than five people in hospital in the region with a recently confirmed case of COVID-19, according to the figures.

This has been the case for the entirety of March, April, May and June.
