AN appeal has been launched after two wheelie bins were "deliberately set on fire" in the Borders.

Police say the incidents happened last weekend in Hawick.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Between Sunday, June 6 and Monday, June 7, two wheelie bins were deliberately set on fire in the Mansfield Park area of Hawick, resulting in their complete destruction.

"If you have any information relating to this crime or saw anything suspicious in the area at the time please call 101 quoting incident 1642 of June 13.

"Alternatively you can pass information completely anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/Give-information".
