SPRINTER Libby Clegg MBE has rounded off her wonderful career with a silver medal in the Universal 4 x 100m relay event in Tokyo today.

Competing along with Nathan Maguire T54, Jonnie Peacock T64 and Ali Smith T38, Team GB finished in third place behind winners USA and China in an area record time of 47.50.

Initially they were awarded bronze but this was upgraded to silver after China were disqualified.

Libby announced her retirement from the sport after failing to qualify for the semi-finals of the women's T11 200m earlier this week.

She told C4 “To finish my career in the Paralympic stadium in Tokyo is amazing.”

The 31-year-old from Newcastleton remains one of Scotland’s most highly decorated athletes.

She competed in the T12 100m and 200m at the 2008 Summer Paralympics, winning a silver medal in the T12 100m race.

She won Gold in Rio at the 2016 Paralympic Games in 100m T11 where she broke the world record and T11 200m, beating the previous Paralympic record in the process, thus making her a double Paralympic champion.

Chief Executive of sportscotland Stewart Harris said ahead of the medal upgrade: “Libby has brought the curtain down on a glittering career with an outstanding run to help ParalympicsBG to a brilliant bronze. She has been at the forefront of her sport for years and deserves all the praise in the world. Another outstanding result for the Scots on Paralympics GB.”
