THE Glentress Masterplan “can only be a positive step” for the region, according to a Borders councillor.
Redevelopment on the site near Peebles will begin at the end of September.
The 'masterplan' will include 16km of new in-forest mountain bike trails, walking trails, increased visitor car parking capacity, and the construction of 56 new Forest Holidays’ eco cabins.
Mark Rowley, the council’s executive member for economic regeneration and finance, said the masterplan will help “support the region for decades”.

“Over recent years the Borders has cemented its place as one of the most sought after mountain biking destinations in the world,” he said.
“Visitors flock to the Glentress area every year to take in its unique natural beauty, helping support local businesses and oftentimes venturing further afield to experience the wider Borders area.
“The additions of first-class holiday accommodation and kilometres of new bike trails for thrill-seekers to enjoy is most welcome and can only be a positive step towards improving our offering and attracting further tourism to the area.
“The wide-ranging economic and tourism benefits brought about from these additions will deliver new jobs and sustainable growth which will help support the region for decades to come.”
