A YELLOW weather warning for rain has been issued for parts of the Borders today (October 5).

The Met Office has said that heavy and persistent rain across the region could lead to "disruption to transport".

The warning will be in place until 10pm and covers areas including Kelso, Jedburgh, Melrose, Galashiels and Lauder.

According to the Met Office's warning impact matrix the yellow warning has a medium likelihood and low impact.

There is a chance of homes and businesses flooding, and transport could be affected by delays on roads due to spray and flooding and bus and train services could also be affected.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Rain, accompanied with strengthening winds, will continue to affect northeast England and the far southeast of Scotland today before clearing away eastwards this evening.

"A further 15-25 mm of rain is expected quite widely whilst in some places another 40-50 mm is possible."
