A PEEBLES environmental group are calling on local people to join them in their food challenge this month.
Tweedgreen launch their Peebles Food Challenge with a session in the Peebles CAN Garden tomorrow (Saturday, October 9), to help people discover the local food on their doorsteps.
The week-long challenge asks participants to take a look at the food they currently eat and assessing how much of it is locally sourced.
Then they look to make swaps of items which perhaps have higher food miles than others, but still keep a couple of exceptions – coffee or tea for example.
A Tweedgreen spokesperson said: "More and more of us are looking for alternatives to food travelling across the globe.
"We want to support smaller, local businesses and are looking for food that is grown and produced locally."
The spokesperson added: "The reason we are choosing October for our challenge is because this is the harvest month.
"The time when an abundance of our best veggies and fruits are entering the stage.
"Make the most of it, get inspired by colours and flavours!"
The session at the Peebles CAN Garden (Victoria Park) will run from 2-4pm on Saturday.
