FORMER Jed-Forest star Chris Laidlaw is now three quarters of the way through his ‘12 in 12 marathon challenge’.
Laidlaw, who hails from Jedburgh has been running a marathon each month this year to raise funds for three charities which mean a lot to him - the Murrayfield Injured Players Foundation; Marie Curie; and Alzheimer’s Scotland.
His first marathon took place on New Year’s Day on a 26-mile course near Edinburgh and since then he has run another eight.
This was a return to happy territory for him as he set out from Fisherrow Harbour in Musselburgh and finished at Hallhill, home ground for Dunbar Rugby Club, where he spent three years as Development Officer.
He said: “The marathons don’t get any easier. About 30km or three hours into it, it really begins to get to you.
“It was great to be back in Dunbar.I had three great years there as development officer and, once again, I found the experience very humbling.
“I found people that I don’t really know connecting to the challenge, whether it was chucking money into the pot or coming out and running alongside me.”
Chris has now raised close to £17,500 and has three more marathons to complete his fund-raising.
