THE Borders is set to host a night of 'top-quality' entertainment to help raise money for MND Scotland.

The Big Night Oot, to be held at the MacArts Centre in Galashiels on Saturday (October 23) from 7.30pm-10pm, has been organised by Ross Mackie – an NHS mental health team leader – in memory of his late friend.

The 57-year-old, of Selkirk, said: “We’re staging the event in memory of our friend Helen who, together with her husband Calum, were my son’s godparents.

“When Helen was diagnosed with MND, Calum received support from MND Scotland throughout her illness, and following her death last year. The event is my way of supporting the work that the charity does on a daily basis."

The Big Night Oot will include comedy performances from Martin Bearne and Viv Gee, as well as music, special guests and a prize draw.

Iain McWhirter, head of fundraising at MND Scotland, said: “I’d like to thank Ross for all he is doing to raise awareness of MND and funds to help fight back against motor neurone disease.

“It’s because of people like Ross that we are able to provide emotional, practical and financial support to families affected by MND, and fund vital MND research.”

Mr Mackie added: “I’d like to thank Morgan Smith, Lee McCleary and my family and friends for helping to organise this event. We hope people will come along on Saturday night for a brilliant evening of laughs, music and charity fundraising for this brilliant cause.”

Tickets for The Big Night Oot are £10 and can be purchased from www.ticketsource.co.uk/macarts
