A PEEBLESSHIRE farm is preparing to welcome visitors to its first spooky event.

Halloween on the Farm at Winkstonhill Farm, near Peebles, will give people the chance to visit the haunted barn and a spooky woodland walk from Tuesday (October 26).

Jane Spence, who owns Winkstonhill Farm, said: "We’re really looking forward to welcoming visitors to what will be a fun, fang-tastic experience with our little beasties here at Winkston Hill Farm!"

Jane added: "We’ve never held a Halloween event before and following my failed efforts at pumpkin growing this year, have decided to make the most of our existing facilities with the Haunted Barn. It’s going to look spook-tacular!

"There is also a spooky Woodland Walk, which is not only for the very brave, but also the physically active as involves some uphill explorations through the trees."

"Visitors will be able to follow the Halloween trail through our Haunted Barn to see what’s happening, with a few spooky surprises along the way.

"There are opportunities to interact with the farm animals and learn more about them. As we are a working farm with a range of animals, it will depend on what’s happening at the end of October but the Haunted Barn will definitely have some of our characters in there to enjoy close-up encounters with. These include different breeds of sheep, cattle, goats, hens, horses, ducks and quail.

"A lot of work goes into the practicalities behind opening a farm to visitors but it’s been fun to paint tombstones and pumpkins in between daily chores and creatively utilise what we already have – for once I’ll be keeping the cobwebs where they are! It’s also great to have the Haunted Barn allowing us to be undercover if the weather isn’t kind. Hallowe’en costume is of course optional but don’t forget to wrap up warm and wear appropriate footwear if you do book to come and see us."

Following the last 18 months Jane and the farm team have worked to diversify the business to offer range of farm experiences.

Jane said: "I know that following lockdown restrictions, there is even more appreciation for spending time outdoors and we are so lucky to have such stunning countryside on our doorstep. I’ve also seen first-hand the benefits that people of all ages gain from spending time with the animals so it’s exciting to take our plans forward."

Last year the farm held its first seasonal event with a Santa's grotto which Jane said was a "great success".

The farm will also host the Christmas event again this year.
