NINE Scottish country dancers from Selkirk have appeared on a ‘Worldwide Dancing in the Street Video’ that aired on Holiday Alley web-TV today (30 November 2021)

As part of the Holiday Alley Festival held in the town of Selkirk Manitoba, Canada, residents of towns named Selkirk from around the world were invited to film themselves dancing.

The Souters, who are all aged over 70 took up the challenge and their dance to the 32-bar reel ‘Deil Amang the Tailors’ impressed the judges.

Margaret Pritchard told the Border Telegraph: “We are all from the Selkirk Scottish Country Dance class and have been dancing together for a long time. We got permission to film our dance in front of the Mungo Park Court which was appropriate as it’s just across from the statue of Mungo Park.

“The dance was filmed and sent away to the festival organisers and we just received an email back saying that they were delighted with it so we are all thrilled and looking forward to watching it later this month.”

The women who took part were Maureen Buckley, Shirley Brown, Freda Nicholson, Margaret Pritchard, Mary Harkness, Maureen Davidson, Olive Stillie, Wendy Boustead and Ros Roxburgh.
