FINES totalling £800 have been imposed on a man who admitted being abusive to police officers on two occasions.
Nineteen-year-old Finlay Naysmith pleaded guilty to shouting and swearing, acting in an aggressive manner , uttering threats of violence and homophobic remarks in High Street, Selkirk, and in a police vehicle en-route to Hawick Police Station on September 23.
Then on December 7 last year he admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner towards police officers on a woodland area near Peebles as officers were dealing with a group of youths who had congregated.

Defence lawyer Mat Patrick admitted: "He is thoroughly ashamed of his behaviour. He has taken steps to reduce his alcohol intake."
The construction worker from Peebles was fined £400 on each of the two charges.
Sheriff Peter Paterson, who imposed a £40 Victim Surcharge, told Naysmith that what was said to the police officers was "deplorable".
