APPLICATIONS for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Fund through Scottish Borders Council (SBC) are now open.

The fund was launched to help communities commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.

Non-profit community groups and voluntary groups can apply for the grant to cover the cost of events and gatherings across the region – grants of up to £1,000 are available and a maximum of £2,500 could be given to larger projects.

Councillor Robin Tatler, executive member for community development and localities, said: “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Fund is a brilliant initiative to celebrate and reflect on the service of Her Majesty over the last 70 years.”

There will also be an extended bank holiday from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5 to mark the jubilee.

Applicants to the fund are encouraged to be as creative as possible, with suggested events including concerts, open days, or street parties.

The funding could also be used to "create a lasting legacy" by improving public spaces including parks, gardens or by planting commemorative trees in the community.

Mr Tatler added: “This is a great opportunity to harness the community spirit our towns and villages in the Borders are renowned for, following a difficult couple of years dealing with the impact of coronavirus.

“I urge as many communities and organisations as possible to participate in creating a lasting legacy of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and fill out an application form.”
