A PEEBLESSHIRE resident is “disappointed” that Tweeddale’s MP has declined an invitation to publicly discuss his stance on Boris Johnson’s leadership.

Ian Reid, of West Linton, wrote to David Mundell on January 31 asking the Tory representative to attend a meeting to share his views on the Prime Minister after Sue Gray’s redacted report into alleged COVID breaches was released.

In his letter Mr Reid says: “I know you have said you would wait until Sue Gray’s report to make your decision whether to support Boris Johnson or not. Now is the time. I’m sure your own sense of decency will now allow you to let your constituents know your decision.”

However, Mr Mundell has turned down the invitation. He told the Peeblesshire News this week: “I have replied to every constituent who has written to me regarding this matter, had phone calls with others, spoken in person to more still and will continue to respond to all representations I receive.

“It is not, however, my intention to attend any proposed public meeting on this subject.”
