PEEBLES Highland Games will host its annual general meeting (AGM) next week ahead of its 50th anniversary event this year.

The Games were put on hold for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the annual event will return to Hay Lodge Park in September to celebrate its 50 anniversary.

Chris Patterson, chairman of the Games, told the Peeblesshire News: “We had a really successful Highland Games in 2019 and were hoping to build on that in 2020 but then along came COVID-19 and we had to cancel the event for two years in a row.

“With restrictions now easing we are really looking forward being able to hold the Highland Games again this year on Saturday, September 3 in Hay Lodge Park for what will be our 50th anniversary event.”

He added: “However, as is often the case, a few people have moved on or retired from the Committee since 2019 and so we are very much in need of some new volunteers who are interested in getting involved in the organisation of the Games.

“Being a one-day annual event, the required level of commitment is not huge and tends to be focussed around the weeks leading up to the Games with only around five or six committee meetings being held throughout the rest of year.

“Our Committee prides itself on making new members feel welcome and included in our activities so we would urge anyone who is interested in finding out more about the organisation of Peebles Highland Games to come along to the AGM on Tuesday evening.

“Alternatively, contact Secretary, Don Graham on 07492853466 or Chairman, Chris Patterson on 07985522156 for more information.”

The AGM will be held on Tuesday, March 15 in the Peebles Rugby Club Clubrooms at 7.30pm.
