A MAJOR road is set to close between two Borders towns next week, officials have confirmed.

The A7 will be shut from Selkirk to Hawick between 7.30pm-6am on Tuesday and Wednesday to allow resurfacing works to be carried out.

A diversion route will be signposted via the A698, A68 and A699, adding around 14 miles and 24 minutes to journeys.

The works were originally planned for February but had to be rescheduled due to adverse weather.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A7, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works. We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.”
