CROWDS are starting to gather in Bank Street gardens Galashiels where  a variety of demonstrations and taster sessions of all things cycling are taking place ahead of tonight’s Tour Series races on the fast-paced circuit around the town centre.

There is also excellent live music from talented young musicians from the MacArts incubator programme in addition to the Galashiels Town band and a DJ.

The Great Gala Bike Off with a stationary bike is ongoing and older adults get the chance to try out the Galashiels trishaw from 3.45pm.

In addition, there is an arts workshop for young people, a pump track trial, spin sessions for the over 16s and a cycling workshop for kids.

Margaret Shiell from Selkirk who was there with pals Pat Johnston and Rosie Howie from Galashiels told us: I’m really enjoying it. It’s so nice to see people out and about again and everyone has been so friendly. And it’s such a beautiful day and I think it’s a good thing for Gala and it will attract visitors to the town.”

The main events take place on a fast-paced circuit around the town centre, with the finish at Bank Street gardens.

The men's race will take place at 5.30pm followed by the women's race at 7.30pm.
