A BORDERS road will be closed for an extra night for resurfacing work.

The A68 north of the Tweed to Drygrange will close for an extra night next week to allow for further resurfacing work.

The road has been closed every night between Monday (May 2) and today (Friday, May 6) from 7.30pm to 6am.

The 0.8km stretch of the A68 is being resurfaced to create "smoother and safer" conditions for drivers.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A68 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during the works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.”

A diversion will be in place between Earlston and St Boswells via the A6105, A6089 and A699.

Emergency services will be given access through the works, as well as residents requiring local access along the closure when it is safe to pass through the work area.
