INNERLEITHEN was blessed with glorious sunshine at the weekend as it celebrated the Platinum Jubilee.
With live music all day and plenty of jubilee treats, residents of the town enjoyed a wonderful day (pictured) celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne.
The Jubilee Garden Party and Fun Day at the Church of Scotland on Saturday (May 28) had plenty to offer everyone looking to celebrate the Queen.
From 1-4pm the town was filled with music thanks to a host of performers who shared their talents with their audience.
St Ronan’s Silver Band – which organised the event – opened the musical performances, and were followed by Tweedvale (Innerleithen) Pipe Band, St Ronan’s Future Band, and the Live and Local Band.
Alongside the music, there was a range of activities for all the family to enjoy.
The magical children’s entertainer Fairy Emmalina provided youngsters with a fun arts and crafts session.
There was also a bouncy castle, face painting, and even coconut shy.
St Ronan’s Wells Gardening Group had a stall at the fun day selling plants and crafts, helping them to raise more than £300. The stall also had information on volunteering with the garden.
Following the garden party, garden volunteers shared on social media: “Thanks to the organisers of the great tea party yesterday!
“It was a grand day out and we managed to sell £385 worth of plants and crafts.
“Thank you so much for all the support.”
And it wouldn’t be a jubilee celebration without some celebratory refreshments.
Making the most of the sunshine, Caldwell’s Homemade Ice Cream brought their new trailer to Leithen Road to join the festivities, selling their amazing ice creams.
The business said: “What a fantastic afternoon it has been seeing everyone old and young enjoying the entertainment and the sunshine.”
Also at the garden party was Meatissimo serving an array of burgers, hotdogs and fries for hungry guests.
St Ronan’s Silver Band, with the help of Cycling Without Age, also made sure to involve members of the community who couldn’t make the event.
Afternoon teas were delivered to local care homes by trishaw on Saturday to ensure folks could enjoy the free afternoon teas for over 60s at the garden party.
After the garden party and fun day, a spokesperson for St Ronan’s Silver Band shared: “Thanks to everyone who came along. We were also delighted to be able to provide afternoon teas to the residents of both St. Ronan’s House and Mercer Court, delivered by trishaw!”
