THE issue of ‘missing’ lamp posts was raised at a meeting of Innerleithen Community Council this week.

Ross McGinn, chairman of the town’s community trust, said that he had reported the matter through Scottish Borders Council’s (SBC) website.

One missing lamp post is at the junction of Montgomery Street and Princes Street, and the other at Princes Street Gardens.

Mr McGinn said: “There are a number of lamp posts in Innerleithen that have been missing, one for nine months and one for almost six months and both in fairly strategic positions.

“They have been reported online through SBC’s website, which the previous leader of the council always encouraged us to do and said there would be action within a month. That has not happened, I can report them again but doubt that anything will happen.

“Summertime is here and now is the time to get them done before the dark nights.”

Tweeddale East councillor Robin Tatler said that he’d had a discussion with council officer Alex Young about lighting. Mr Tatler added that the whole town is being surveyed in terms of lighting at the moment.
