BORDERS MP John Lamont said he was ‘honoured’ to be asked to officially open the new Angels Sweet Spot on Hawick High Street on Friday June 17.

Angels Sweet Spot is owned by Saima and Ishfaq Hussain, who welcomed Mr Lamont to the shop alongside two of their three children.

It serves sweets and Italian gelato ice cream and there are plans to serve waffles, crêpes, and bubble tea in the shop in the near future.

The selection of sweets includes vegetarian, vegan, and halal sections, meaning there is something for everyone.

Mr Lamont has welcomed the new business as a fantastic addition to the Borders high street community.

He said: “I was honoured to be asked to open this exciting new shop in Hawick. I’m always delighted to see new businesses open in the Borders, especially on our high streets which are important features of our local economy.

“The bad news is I now have a sweetie shop directly across from my office which might not be great for my waistline!

“The owners have done a great job setting up the shop, and I think it will be popular with the community.

“I wish Ishfaq and Saima all the best with their new venture.”

Ishfaq and Saima Hussain said: “We are delighted to be opening Angels Sweet Spot, which we believe to be the largest self-service pick and mix in the Borders. It was great to have John visit and hear our plans for opening and the future.

“In opening the shop, we hope to bring something new to the community. With vegan, vegetarian, and halal products, we hope there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming residents into the shop and we hope to serve the people of Hawick as well as the surrounding communities for many years to come.”
