PEEBLES Rovers Football Club will promote the Peeblesshire Foodbank on their home and away shorts during this season’s campaign.

And volunteers at the charity have hailed the club's generosity.

Foodbank manager Fiona Dalgleish said: “This is a brilliant gesture from the club. They could easily have sold the sponsorship but to have our name embedded on the short which will be worn at grounds throughout the country this year is just brilliant. It was so thoughtful of them and I am so chuffed.

“There is sometimes a stigma attached to using foodbanks and there shouldn’t be so to have it included in Peebles Rovers home and away strips reduces that stigma.”

Rovers chairman Colin Macdonald said: “It’s become increasingly apparent that foodbanks have become a part of our everyday lives.

“After speaking with Fiona at the Peebles Foodbank, we were shocked at the level of requirement for their services and had no hesitation as a club in wanting to highlight the amazing work being done.”

The Peeblesshire Foodbank mainly delivers nutritional packages to cover three days.

Collection points are available at all supermarkets in the area and cash donations are also welcomed.

Fiona added: “We have plenty of volunteers although we are always looking for help. We deliver across the area including the likes of Dolphinton and Walkerburn and people can contact us on 1721 588654, by email at info@peeblesshirefoodbank.org.uk or via our facebook page.

“If you are in a supermarket and want to donate we need coffee, UHT milk, dried potatoes such as smash, rice, lentils and curry sauce.”
