THE draw for the 2022/23 Scottish Cup Preliminary Round took place at Hampden Park yesterday afternoon, with a number of Borders teams included.

Coldstream have a difficult away tie against  Auchinleck Talbot and Hawick Royal Albert have a long trip to face Carnoustie Panmure.

Vale of Leithen finally have a home tie, their first in nine years and they will play Dunbar United.

Three-time Scottish Cup winner Jackie McNamara joined Gordon Duncan to make the draw.

The first two sides drawn - Jeanfield Swifts and Tynecastle - received a bye into the First Round, with the remaining 48 teams being drawn into 24 head to head matches. The fixtures will take place on the weekend of Saturday, 27 August.

McNamara scored for Celtic in the 2001 Scottish Cup Final against Hibernian, before captaining the club to the trophy in the 2004 and 2005 finals against Dunfermline and Dundee United respectively.

Reflecting on his experiences in the competition, he said: “For any kid growing up, to play at Hampden, play in the Scottish Cup and win the cup, it's something you dream about.

“They’re good memories. The first one was against Hibs - the team that I watched my dad play for growing up - so to come on and score against them, in a treble-winning season, that was a special moment. As a player you want to be remembered and part of history.

“I was fortunate to win two Scottish Cups as captain of the team, one of them was against Dunfermline which was my first club, a fantastic club, and it was Henrik’s last game so I lifted the trophy with Henrik.

“The following year, Martin O’Neill was leaving as well and I didn’t know it at the time but it would be my last game for Celtic. The experiences of being captain and leading a side out on the day is special.

“The Final is a great day out, the fans and the build up, and going up the steps to lift the trophy is what it’s all about."
