Playparks in the Borders are set to be consulted on to determine any necessary improvements to modernise the facilities.

A consultation on The Green in Gavinton, Jenny Moore's Road in St Boswells, The Orchard in Newstead and Bog Park in Selkirk – all of which will receive investment from Scottish Borders Council (SBC) – has been launched to see what improvements residents think could be made.

Councillor John Greenwell, executive member for roads development and maintenance at SBC, said: “This next wave of improvements reinforces the Council’s commitment through the play parks and outdoor community spaces strategy to transform our play areas, making them more accessible than ever and improving community wellbeing.

“Encouraging children to get outside and active post-pandemic is extremely important and with the addition of more modern and more inclusive equipment we can really make a difference to the lives of our children and young people.

“I’d encourage as many people as possible to have their say as part of this consultation and gives us that all important feedback which will help shape what these facilities look like in the future.”

Through the council's programme the local authority will invest more than £4million into playparks and outdoor spaces over seven years.

These improvements could include what kind of equipment would be installed, such as wheelchair roundabouts, trampolines, ramped multi-plays, basket swings and play panels.

In 2021 two destination playparks opened in Peebles and Newtown St Boswells with state-of-the-art equipment for three-14-year-olds.

Feedback from the council's consultation – which will be open until August 18 – will be developed with the help of the contractors delivering the play equipment.
