Beyond Borders International Festival 2022 is hosting two veteran players from the Blair administration who will give a definitive account of their experience in British politics.

This year Beyond Borders has invited former Downing Street Director of Communications and Strategy Alastair Campbell to be cross-examined by his old colleague and former Downing Street Chief of Staff Jonathan Powell in what promises to be an exclusive and illuminating insight into the heart of British politics.

Two of our foremost political commentators will reunite, reminisce, and discuss their experience of the Blair years, Brexit, and beyond.

Jonathan Powell, who was chief British government negotiator on Northern Ireland, and Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair’s right-hand-man during the Northern Ireland Peace Process, will also explore the impact of Brexit on the Northern Ireland Protocol.

At an unstable time in British politics, the UK begins to reflect on Boris Johnson’s time in government and look toward the uncertain future of British politics. Alastair Campbell and Jonathan Powell will provide their perspective on the current political climate and offer a unique insight into their vision for the future of Britain.

As a mental health campaigner and previous Mind champion of the year, Alastair Campbell will delve into his own struggles with depression and mental health and share his journey towards finding inner peace.

Alastair Campbell is currently the co-host of the immensely popular number one podcast ‘The Rest is Politics' with Rory Stewart where he explores all of these topics and more, exposing the secrets of Westminster and offering an insider view across the political divide.

Audiences will be able to watch the event on Sunday 28th August from the idyllic grounds of Traquair House at the Beyond Borders International Festival 2022.
