A WOODEN war memorial in Peebles is set to move into a new home.

Discussions have been launched to relocate a varnished plaque commemorating the Boer War which is currently on the wall in the School Brae Community Hub.

The plan is to move it inside Peebles Burgh Hall.

At a recent meeting members of the council’s Chambers Institution Trust agreed in principle to approve the move, at the cost of £590.

If the relocation does go-ahead the Imperial War Museums would need to be notified.

Tweeddale East councillor Marshall Douglas, of the SNP, said: “I’ve heard from the chairman of Peebles Community Council on this issue and they are aware of the intended move. They would like the move to be classed as temporary in the meantime so they can seek wider consultation.

"They don’t see a real problem with it and that the burgh hall would be appropriate given its proximity to the other war memorial, but they think there should be consultation before it is a permanent move.”

The committee agreed in principle to the move, subject to consultation.
