A 60-YEAR-OLD man has died after a one-car crash near Peebles, say police.

The incident took place at around 10.25am on Tuesday (August 16) on the A72 near Neidpath Castle, according to officers.

The man was pronounced dead on his way to hospital after emergency services had attended the scene.

The road remains closed between Kingsland Primary School and Meldonfoot/Lynesmill, say police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.25am on Tuesday (August 16) police were called to the A72 near Neidpath Castle, following a report of a crash involving one car.

“Emergency services attended however the 60-year-old male driver was pronounced dead on his way to hospital.

“Enquiries into the crash are ongoing and the road remains closed between Kingsland Primary School, Peebles and Meldonfoot/Lynesmill.”
