MORE than 8,000 people attended the Chain Reaction TweedLove Bike Festival 2022 powered by Pirelli in Peebles last weekend including 2,100 who actively cycled in organised races.

The award-winning event saw the UK’s top riders take to the hills for the British MTB Enduro Championships on Sunday, but there was plenty for all riders and visitors to enjoy across the weekend.

Around 500 children and family members attended the free cinema showing, 80 brands and businesses including several international ones exhibited and 140 mostly local people were employed in organising as staff or volunteer crew.

Event director Neil Dalgleish said: “What a weekend! It’s fantastic to welcome so many people here for TweedLove - the Tweed Valley and Scottish Borders now becoming firmly established as a major destination for all kinds of cyclists.

“From the wee ones through to the fastest pro mountain bike athletes, this place and this festival has what’s needed to welcome them for a fantastic weekend on and off the bikes.

“We should all be proud of what our home has to offer, and the community that helps it to thrive. It really is something very special.

“I’d like to thank everyone locally for putting up with the disruption caused and for the kind welcome given to our visitors – many were blown away by what they found here.”

Festival organiser Amber Winnubst said, “The festival village on Tweed Green was buzzing all weekend with all kinds of people from all kinds of accents.

“It’s great to see the power of the bike bringing so many people together in such a positive and healthy way – it’s a pleasure to be involved with all these brands, businesses and bike riders!”
