FOOTBALL fans in the Scottish Borders have the chance to see some of Celtic’s exciting youngsters when the B team visit Netherdale tomorrow.

And it’s been a bust week for the talented squad with no fewer than nine called up for international duty at various levels.

Captain Matthew Anderson and teammates Adam Brooks, Mackenzie Carse and Ben McPherson were named in Billy Starks Under-19 Scotland squad and Corey Thomson, Daniel Kelly and Magnus Mackenzie were selected for the Scotland Under 18s.

Roco Vata was selected for the Republic of Ireland Under 19s and recent signing, goalkeeper Josh Clarke was named in the Northern Ireland Under 19s.

Tobi Olumwayemi received a late call up for England Under 20s.

Gala Fairydean Rovers boss Martin Scott and his assistant Steve Craig know how to get the better of Celtic having both scored for Ross County in their Scottish Cup semi-final victory over the Hoops twelve years ago.

Scott said: “Some people say that the Celtic game is a free hit, and although we have not beaten them since I arrived at the club, we always put in a decent performance against them and Rangers.

“But I’ve seen both Celtic B teams a few times and they are a very good side. They have a lot of good players and some of the football they play at times is brilliant.

“And that’s because their coaches have the time to work with the youngsters every day.”

Gala have been down to the bare bones numbers wise in recent week but Scott revealed that things were slowly improving.

He continued: “Jacko (Jack Beaumont) is back in full training which is a bonus for us and Ciaren (Chalmers) is improving.

“Callum Hall trained for the first time the other day but he is still not quite ready.

“Kyle Wilkie played against Sauchie but he’s still not at full fitness and I played the first half of that game with a thigh strain and so I had to come off at half-time.

“But now that we are able to play home games and the numbers are improving,  I’m starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.

“Unfortunately, we’ve lost out on three signings at the last minute who were all poised to sign but changed their minds at the last minute.

“ We are still looking for additions to the squad.”
