BORDERS performers are returning to the stage this weekend with a cabaret performance full of old favourites.

Two-and-a-half-years-ago, Selkirk Musical Theatre Company (SMTC) completed its performances of All Shook Up, with none of the cast and crew knowing that it would be such a long wait before they could do it again.

However, SMTC performers will be treading the boards once again with a cabaret show titled A Lovely Night as part of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) Scotland’s conference at Peebles Hydro.

Stuart Mitchell from SMTC said: “Selkirk Musical Theatre Company were surprised, yet honoured to be asked to be the one company in Scotland to perform at this [NODA Scotland conference].

“The first half of A Lovely Night will be a preview of this cabaret – a chance for our families and the people who support our shows to see what we’ve been working on over the recent months.

“The second half is made up of some old favourites such as Oh What A Beautiful Morning, Do You Hear the People Sing? and Consider Yourself.

“It’s been great to be back in rehearsals and we can’t wait to get back on stage – hopefully, it’s just like riding a bike – when we get back up there, the nerves will hopefully disappear and we can enjoy every minute of it.”

The next project for SMTC will be a production of the musical The Wedding Singer.

Mr Mitchell said: “We are incredibly keen to have new members join the company and we welcome anyone age 14+.

“We will be having a meet and greet night on November 2 at Selkirk Scout Hall and would love to see plenty of new and returning faces.

“In addition to rehearsing for the show, we have a busy social calendar planned throughout the year – so plenty of opportunities to make new friends and get involved with a fun, friendly local theatre company.”
