AS HALLOWEEN approaches, we've compiled a list of some the Borders destinations with reports of spooky sightings.
Whether it's creaking doors, whispers down corridors, or ghostly figures, there are plenty of stories in the region.
The UK Haunted Locations Database has created a map of all the haunted spots around the UK, with 29 found in the Borders region.
From haunted hotels, to creepy castles, the Borders has a lot to offer those hoping to meet a wandering spirit.

Abbotsford House, Tweedbank
Sir Walter Scott is said to haunt his former home, particularly the dining room where he died.

Medwyn House, West Linton
Reports of a horse and coach heard around the house.

Thirlestane Castle, Lauder
The ghost of John Maitland, the Duke of Lauderdale, has been reportedly seen in some of the castle's chambers.

The George and Abbotsford Hotel, Melrose
Footsteps have been heard in empty parts of the hotel.

Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum, Jedburgh
Reports have been made of cell doors opening and closing by themselves, whistling, and other strange goings on have been spotted.

Traquair House, Innerleithen
Scotland's oldest inhabited house shares the story of the ghost of Lady Louise Stuart walking through the grounds 60 years ago. But the ghost of Bonnie Prince Charlie has also been sighted.

The County Inn, Peebles
The spirit of a woman, who was supposedly killed in a tunnel behind the dining room, has been sensed, along with things going missing or being moved and whispering has been heard.

Floors Castle, Kelso
The ghost of Margaret Hay, the 1st Duchess of Roxburghe – who disappeared under "mysterious circumstances" – is said to have been heard sobbing in the Long Gallery.

Neidpath Castle, Peebles
'The Maid of Neidpath', believed to be Jean Douglas, is said to haunt the castle. Her apparition has been seen, doors have opened and closed by themselves, objects have moved and unexplained noises have been heard.

Hermitage Castle, Hermitage
One os the spectres haunting the castle is said to be William Soulis, a warlock who slaughtered children in the 13th and 14th centuries. The cries of his victims have been heard, and other spectral figures have been spotted in the castle.
